Red (vermelho)
- Paint the town in red = se divertir para valer por um breve período, cair na gandaia.
Ex.: "Well, now that we´ve finished our job, I think we should just go and paint the town red."
(Bem, agora que já terminamos nosso trabalho, acho que podemos cair na gandaia.)
- Red hot = alguma coisa muito quente, quentíssima.
Ex.: "The wheel of my car was red hot after I had left it parked by the beach."
(O volante do meu carro ficou quentíssimo, depois que eu estacionei na praia.)
- Catch someone red-handed = pegar alguém em flagrante.
Ex.: "I arrived at work earlier and caught my colleague red-handed stealing stationary."
(Cheguei cedo no trabalho e peguei meu colega roubando material de escritório.)
- Give someone the red-carpet treatment = tratar alguém muito bem, estender o tapete vermelho (aqui há semelhança entre as expressões inglesa e portuguesa).
Ex.: "Our manager was given the red-carpet treatment at a convention in Los Angeles last year."
(Nosso gerente foi muito bem tratado na convenção em Los Angeles no ano passado.)
